![]() Since we don’t have the time and resources to add compatibility for all possible hardware configurations, we concentrate on those that most people use (see: – also keep in mind the game will be released in 2015). by changing their saturation and color, which allows us to get away with drawing fewer variants manually. SDL doesn’t add anything relevant to our needs that we haven’t already covered with SFML.Īdvanced visual effects is a relative term Battle Brothers makes use of shaders for some visual effects and to add variety to a limited selection of sprites, e.g. We use SFML precisely for cross-platform portability. Like I said, I'm sure there are many people like me out there spinning aimlessly in the Astral. The use of SFML has nothing to do with the fact that a current version of Windows XP is required to install the combat demo. Please feel free to keep adding information as you see fit. While I'm thinking about it, does taking a Master increase your Astral Energy, gold, gems, etc.more than taking a regular shard? Does it increase it at all? I keep forgetting to check my stats before the battles 1) because they usually attack me first so the Astral takes you right to the next shard thus not allowing me to see my stats, and 2) after I defeat him on my home shard I then usually immediately attack him, which means I'm basically fighting three battles (the shard I originally took, my home shard when he/she attacked me, and the Masters home shard when I go after him/her) so I can't measure what I'm gaining.Īnyway, thanks again for your help. From what I've found, once I win the initial battle against (usually) their best hero it doesn't really matter how long I wait after that I'm pretty much going to win. ![]() And, unless I'm already seiging their castle, I usually give them peace when they want. As someone in another post said, I don't declare war on any of the Masters on a shard, I let them do it. It's basically just helping you (hopefully) get some allies on shards instead of having everyone want to attack you all at once, right? I'm trying to be friendly with the good and not piss off the evil too bad until I'm ready to handle them. Thank you very much! So, in other words, what you say and to whom doesn't really have much of an impact on the overall game. I'm sure it'll be another 20 hours or more of game play until I have to choose another battle. I'd just like to know that I'm not going to end up getting 1000 hrs in and finding I really should have kept Oinor around because he's the key to the whole thing. I'm okay with the length of the campaign. I've only transferred a hero once just to try it but otherwise I start from scratch each time with mostly a commander, occasionally a scout, and once a mage on a magic world.Īny insight at all would be much appreciated and I gotta believe there are probably quite a few people out there like me who love the game but would really feel better about everything if they had some sort of clue as to what they're actually trying to accomplish. I haven't "skipped" any turns in the Astral and I'm up to about 125 astral energy each turn with about 1250 saved up. IIRC I've taken 21 shards and 4 masters but I'm now really starting to wonder what to do next. Oumm attacked me so I took him out after I beat him off and I think I've taken one other.can't remember. I took out the barbarian-Dom or something-and then Beleth. So to make a long question longer, can anyone give me some feedback on how I should be approaching these characters in the Astral? I'm playing "good" of course, which is how I always do my first playthroughs. So, now, as I said, I'm 400 more hours into it and I keep going after free shards because I'm afraid to take out a Master in case I might for some reason "need' him/her or his/her info later. I learned the game and moved up to the level below Overlord-whatever the name of that is. I've already restarted once after about 300 hrs playing competent. Now I suppose I could spend 200 hours watching youtube videos (I've spent maybe 10-and they've been helpful and actually surprisingly entertaining-thanks Martin) but if I'm going to invest that much time into something I'd rather be playing, not watching. It's something totally different to have 400 hours into the campaign and still not have a clue if you're making game-breaking mistakes or not. ![]() You just remember that you need to slow down next time through. Seriously, it's one thing if you're playing a racing game and you go over a hill at 90mph only to find a hairpin turn on a cliff. So, I've scrounged around everywhere I can think of trying to find hints and clues about if there is some sort of strategy to the Astral and there is about, as Chris Farley used to say from his "van down by the river", JACK SQUAT!
